Watch the rain dance across the river, swim
the turquoise waters that will rival any heath spa, Taste the local goods on
offer in the area (honey, berries, wine, cheese & toffee) & touch the
natural wonders that Denmark is renowned for.
Go for a day trip heading along South Coast
Highway, to Williams Bay just 14 km from Denmark you will see one of the most
scenic beaches in the south - west region. Look carefully over the bay to see if
you can see any marine mammals frolicking in the waters. Turning back on the
highway for just a minute and turn into Bartholomew's Meadery, a modern industry from ancient ways, taste test the Spiced Honey Wines,
spot the Queen Bee
in the glass hive and take a honey ice-cream with you for the road.
During the height of the holiday season
(October - April) an abundance of cafe's, galleries and wineries with tearooms
and restaurant facilities will be open for a top up in the caffeine and meal
fixes to keep you going on your sight seeing adventures.
If it all becomes a bit too much for one day
you can easily turn back to town and take a gentle walk along the river, or even
try
a paddleboat ride.
Take another drive, but this time a change
in scenery, turn onto the Scotsdale Tourist Drive, and watch for sign's to the
Pentland Alpaca Stud and Animal Farm on McLeod Road. The farm invites you
hand feed the animals, be sure to ask at the office it there, are any ''New
Arrivals" and the feeding times for something a little more special.
For the 4WD adventurer the area also
offers some great tracks. Take in the sights at Boat Harbour, Parry's and
Peaceful Bay. Check with the rangers at the Shire Council to see what tracks are
accessible and the guidelines to follow.
If you have had enough of the car by now,
you can try your hand at fishing. Denmark can be fished by boat or by beach.
Wilson Inlet has many great delights and some pretty good tales of "the one
that got away" If inlet fishing is not your style or if you like to keep
your feet on dry land Denmark has plenty of back beaches as well, Lights Beach, Boat
Harbour and Parry's just to name a few.
A must see of the area is the Valley of the
Giants, a steel suspended bridge allows you to walk through and around the tops
of these massive trees. For those a little intimidated by heights the Ancient
Empire walk through the under story of the trees is something of equal wonder. Conservation And Land
Management (CALM) has activities held throughout the school holidays from bird
watching to nocturnal tours at night, ask at
the office located at the Valley Of The Giants for activities times.
For the wine buffs there is a local Wine Lovers Guide to Denmark listing the local wineries. Car pool with a bunch of
friends and take up the challenge to try all the wineries in the area. To compliment
your new purchases drop in at Denmark's Farmhouse Cheeses, all made from locally
produced milk, I'm sure you will be bound to find one your taste buds will love.
